Introduction

The purpose of this documentation is to provide an overview of the end user functionality available in the Tolven example applications.

As an open source solution available at www.tolven.org, the Tolven platform and applications can be deployed without purchasing any software licenses. The full complement of components necessary to utilize Tolven solutions are also available through the open source community, including databases, application servers, rules engines and work flow engines.

The technical installation reference guide and other technical documentation are available from www.tolven.org. See Technical Documentation for details.

This section of the Tolven Documentation Wiki describes the basic processes that an end-user is required to perform to access the Tolven applications and perform end-user functions.

The Tolven applications (i.e., the electronic Personal Health Record, the electronic Clinician Health Record and the Clinical Research Subject Record) exhibit exactly the same application behaviors. However, the functionality that a system administrator makes available to each application environment may differ. For example, the electronic Clinician Health Record may offer the functionality to prescribe medications and develop care plans; while the electronic Personal Health Record may only provide the capability for users to view such events when shared by their provider. An electronic Clinical Research Subject application may represent de-identified subjects, and may have no ordering or prescribing functionality.

Therefore, the Application User documentation describes the generic application behavior of all Tolven based applications, although the screen shots used in this document to illustrate application behavior have been taken from the electronic Clinician Health Record.
